Buddies


Buddies is part of Local Aid’s programme to increase out-of-school play and leisure activities for children and young people aged 11 to 19 affected by disabilities. 


The programme has four elements: 


  • Buddies Saturdays 
  • Palms up 
  • Community Access 
  • Dyversity 

Buddies’ Saturdays 


A provision for young people aged 12 to 19 with complex needs and behaviours that challenge. Every Other Saturday, 10 am to 3 pm 


Palms Up 


A provision for young people aged 12 to 19 with a range of complex health needs, including peg feeding, epilepsy and mobility support needs 


Community Access 


A provision for young people aged 12 to 19 with additional learning needs and who need support to access and participate in mainstream activities available in the community and would benefit from independent living skills.   


Dyversity 


This is an open-access, family session supporting young people who are on the autistic spectrum or awaiting diagnosis.   


Respite


We offer a short breaks respite provision for young people and their families that is: 


  • solution-focused 
  • age-appropriate 
  • uses person-centred planning; reflects the interests and needs of individuals 
  • ensures the voice of the CYP is heard and acted upon 
  • promotes wellbeing, self-confidence, choices, enjoyment 
  • develops life skills, independence, communication, and social interaction 
  • facilitates access to community amenities 
  • seeks to address the impact of Covid, build resilience, minimise difficulties with anxieties and lack of trust   

Enrichment/work experience programme 


A provision designed to support young people with additional learning needs. This focuses on enrichment activities, mental health, and overall well-being. Our tutor and volunteers offer a supportive, non-traditional setting for learning to develop confidence and life skills and recognise qualifications.
