Welcome to the official website of Local Aid for Children and Community Special Needs. We are a registered charity (No: 1104585) and voluntary organisation, founded in 1990 and based in Swansea, South Wales. Our beneficiary area covers the City and County of Swansea and Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council.
Our mission
To work collaboratively with other agencies to support the needs of vulnerable children, young people and adults in our communities with additional learning needs, raising awareness and aspirations and increasing opportunities for inclusion in all aspects of community life.
Charitable Objectives
- to help provide services and equipment not readily available through statutory sources.
- to support families experiencing hardship, including travel to out-of-county specialist children's hospitals and centres, as needed.
- to promote the rights of individuals to be supported to reach their potential.
- to raise public awareness of the needs and aspirations of young people with special needs in the community.
The Queen's Award
Swansea volunteers recognised by The Queen with prestigious Award.
Local Aid ‘Buddies Project’ based in Swansea has been announced as one of 103 UK volunteering groups to win The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the MBE for volunteer groups. The prestigious National Honour recognises outstanding contributions made to local communities by groups voluntarily devoting their time for the benefit of others. It sets the national benchmark for excellence in volunteering, with the work of those awarded being judged of the highest standard.
We rely on donations to help us provide the services that enhance the lives of these young people in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot.
